Sir Richard Bishop - While My Guitar Violently Bleeds

You know that feeling you get when you listen to something for the first time, and it completely floors you? I had that last night with this album.

Sir Richard Bishop - While My Guitar Violently Bleeds

This is admittedly my first time listening to Richard Bishop, former guitarist of the Sun City Girls, another band I also have not listened to though am no stranger to their large level of influence. So with that said, I was completely floored when I first heard this. I honestly had no idea of what to expect, and was immensely pleased with the resulting sounds.

What we have here, is some very middle eastern, gypsy, Arabic etc acoustic guitar playing, and it sounds beautiful. If someone happens to know the exact term for this, I would love to know. The second track however, is quite different from the first. It is in fact an experimental track, almost psychedelic even in that really dark Japanese psychedelic sound of bands like Kosoukuya. 3rd track is a cross between the two, with the acoustic playing, and faint noise going in and out.

Will everyone enjoy this? Well, I think everyone will enjoy track 1 and 3 at the very least. Track 2 does require some tolerance for more experimental forms of music. With that said though, give it a listen. This is wonderful music well worth it.

Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs

You are now aware the opening riff sounds like Judas Priest - Breaking the Law

Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs

Okay so yea, I'm fucking slow with this. Really, REALLY, slow... Anyway... This is Amesoeurs first album, and their unfortunate last, as the band broke up pretty much immediately after release. Also, this album was HYPED. After the masterpiece that was Ruines Humaines people were psyched for the upcoming album, and unfortunately, for many the hype did not live up. Personally, I love the album, even for its shortcomings, others may not though.

Essentially many had hoped this album to be much like the EP, a merging of black metal, and post-punk, and this album is, but not in the way fans wanted it to be. This album is split up into 3 distinct sounds really. There are the post-punk songs, such as Video Girl, the black metal songs, like I XIII V XIX XV V XXI XVIII XIX – IX XIX – IV V I IV, and the merged songs, such as Heurt. Essentially, fans wanted more merged songs, and less post-punk songs. Personally, I don't really care, since I can enjoy both genres a good deal, and the post-punk songs are done equally well. In fact, the song Amesoeurs is prolly my fav track on the album, and it's one of the post-punk tracks.

So with that all said. I think the album is well worth a listen, and I would personally recomend it to anyone. Also, little bit of trivia. I XIII V XIX XV V XXI XVIII XIX – IX XIX – IV V I IV = Amesoeurs is Dead, pair each roman numeral with a letter.

Deathspell Omega - Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice

"Blessed are the dead whiche dye in the Lorde
Say it loud the ultimate paradigm: Blessed are the dead whiche dye in the Lord"

Deathspell Omega - Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice

A while after posting the Dark Tribe earlier, I kind of remembered something. I haven't actually posted any Deathspell Omega! So here we go, SMRC, easily one of the most influential modern black metal releases in the past 5 years. This shit just took the black metal genre, and made it live, something it hadn't done since Emperor disbanded pretty much.

Musically this is black metal, but quite unlike your typical. This is really something you need to hear to accurately describe. But essentially, this is some very avantgarde and experimental black metal. Granted, it isn't neccesarily "post-black metal" like say... Solefald or Ved Buens Ende but I think you get the idea.

As I said before, this is easily one of the msot influential black metal releases in a long long time, and it really does not dissapoint. I can not think of a single complaint about this album beyond perhaps the songs being a tad too long for the most part, that is it.

Now something else that set this album apart from others, were the lyrics. Is it satanic? Yes. Is it cut your flesh and worship Satan? No. The lyrics greatly delve upon Theistic Satanism from a metaphysical point of view, and the results are admittedly seemingly works of poetry. I highly recommend giving them a read, even if such things do not interest you. They can be read here.

I think that is enough praise for now though. Really this album is a complete work of art, a masterpiece really, and well deserving of a listen for anyone.

Heaven in Her Arms - Discography

Band named after a Converge song... MUST BE EMO!

Demo (Sorry folks, no pic)

Erosion of the Black Speckle

Duplex-Coated Obstruction

That was a joke... or was it?

Heaven in Her Arms are probably the greatest emo/screamo/skramz/whateverthehellyouwannacallit band... ever. Ok maybe I'm exagerrating but they are certainly one of the best.

So what I'm putting up today is their discography. Their demo, an album, and an EP. All three of which are awesome.

Musically this is exceptionally progressive stuff with even some post-rock influence and even a bit of metal riffing. Really this band fucking has it all.

There really is no reason to not give this stuff a listen frankly, unless well, you dislike the genre, but even in that case this may change your mind. So again, no reason to not give this a listen.

Disclose - Apocalypse Continues

Disclose - The Aspects of War

Disclose - Split with G.A.T.E.S.

Disclose - Split with Selfish

If you don't know Disclose, then just think fucking noisey as fuck, raw d-beat from Japan. Which basically means in short that it is fucking awesome, and you should listen to it.

Also G.A.T.E.S. is pretty much half of Church of Misery playing raw noisey thrashy punk with a Motorhead vibe. So again, hurry up and download it.

Beherit - Engram

All In Satan

Beherit - Engram

Little slow on this, but oh well. This is Beherit's long awaited new album. In particular, it has been 16 years since the last Beherit album, quite a long time. So how have things changed?

Well, for starters, this is no Oath of Black Blood. Unfortunate but true. Also the vocals are more toned down. Still sounds like Beherit, but not quite as insane. You'll get what I mean when you listen to it. Musically, again, it still sounds like Beherit, but it is again more toned down. We actually have a semblance of melody here, and the production is certainly decent. This wasn't recorded in a basement/bedroom.

But really the only question that matters is "So is it good?" and frankly. Yes, yes it is. Why else would I post it if I didn't like it? Is it different? Yes. Is it still good? You bet your ass.

Give it a whirl, you'll like it.

The Comes - No Side

So I was looking through this blog, and noticed I had several drafts I never got around to fleshing out, including this one. So here goes.

This is The Comes, a short lived Japanese punk band from the early 80s that, frankly, were fucking awesome, and are to this day among my favorite Japanese hardcore bands. Also they had one of the best female vocalists I've heard. She isn't on track 1 though.

Dark Tribe -In Jeraspunta - Die Rückkehr Der Tollwütigen Bestie

Seriously, you'd expect a band named fucking Dark Tribe to be pretty fucking generic, and, frankly, probably pretty shitty. Least I assumed so. But nope, this shit is anything but, and its definitely a pretty fucking amazing piece of black metal most of you should give a listen. Definitely unlike anything else out there.

Lifelover - Pulver

Lifelover - Pulver

Nice cover eh? This is Lifelover, a rather interesting black metal band. What makes them interesting though, is that they have a very... poppy sound to them. By that I mean, this is some really catchy hooky stuff. But it isn't in a bad way. Far from it.. This is just some nice catchy black metal.

Not much more to say, so give it a listen.

Current 93 - I Have A Special Plan For This World

A very special plan.

Current 93 - I Have A Special Plan For This World

This album is... unusual to say the least, and could even be considered as being scary given the context of the lyrics being spoken and the unsettling atmosphere, so keep this in mind.

This is a collaboration between horror writer Thomas Ligotti and David Tibet of Current 93. Essentially this is experimental ambient music also to the spoken word of Tibet reciting one of Ligotti's poems. The result is something both genius, and likely to some, disturbing.

Since first hearing this album several days ago I can not stop listening to this. In fact it is even my new "song to fall asleep to". Personally I have yet to experience any form of nightmares since I began sleeping to this but I can't necessarily guarantee your dreams to be as empty as mine.

Nonetheless, I have fallen in love with this album and even as a direct result, recently taken a great deal of interest in Ligotti's works as well. So I highly recommend giving this a listen.

Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom

Got racism?

Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom

As mentioned, this is a fairly racist album. The band claims they are not and that their lyrics are merely told from the point of view of colonial perspectives, which is indeed true. These lyrics are clearly sung as if the slave trade is alive and well in colonial times. It is ultimately up to the listener to decide however if these are the true feelings of the band and whether or not the lyrics will impair your enjoyment, but I digress...

What we have here, racist or not, is some of the best melodic death metal out there you will hear. This isn't generic In Flames, or At the Gates worship, rather this is more along the lines of the Intestine Baalism I posted earlier. This is death metal, with melody.

No More Radio Show

As of 4/2/09 I have decided to cancel the radio show, Untitled with John Lennon. I simply do not have the time to devote to continue the show and fulfill other obligations I do not care to fulfill. As such the show is canceled.

I do apologize to my music director as I have essentially screwed her over in doing so, but I am afraid this was simply the easiest solution. If any metal fans at RIC happen to see this, please head over to WXIN and try to get a metal show. Metal at the moment could really use some more DJs, and with me now gone, the situation is bound to get worse. So please look into it.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio - O N A N I - [Practice Makes Perfect]

Onani is Norwegian for "to please oneself"

The more you know...

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio - O N A N I - [Practice Makes Perfect]

I come to all with another release from Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, whom for now I will just call ORE. This is their newest release and the album title says it all really. When pleasing oneself, practice makes perfect.

As can again be seen from the tracklist, this is even more sexual than the previous album I posted, CCCP. The album is also more calming as there are no strongly industrial tinged tracks this time with the exception of the final track. So don't expect anything like Remember Depravity, and the Orgies of Rome.

If you liked the previous album, and again, enjoy Death in June or any other neofolk artists, then you should again greatly enjoy this as well. Highly recomended, and very beautiful.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio - Cocktails Carnage Crucifixion and Pornography

"Let us raise our glasses and remember the times
When women loved women
And men ravished men"

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio - Cocktails Carnage Crucifixion and Pornography

The above lyrics, taken from the song Remember Depravity, and the Orgies of Rome, sums up this album pretty much. What we have here is neofolk, very dark, and extremely sexual and hedonistic neofolk.

Also, for those curious, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio loosely translates from Latin as Order of the Rose and Balance. The album, abbreviated as CCCP, also opens and begins with the Soviet anthem, which I found interesting. Anyway this stuff is really good, highly recomend checking it out. If you happened to enjoy Death in June, then you should love this as well.

X-Mal Deutschland - Incubus Sucubus

And now for something completely different.

X-Mal Deutschland - Incubus Sucubus

This is a rather unusual piece for me to be posting, but oh well. This is X-Mal Deutschland. You pronounce the X-Mal simply "ixmal" for those curious as well. Further, what we have here is gothic rock. None of that fake goth crap people call goth, nope. This is real 100% goth music that goths used to, and should still, listen to.

This however isn't an album, rather one of the first 12" releases by this all-girl goth group back in 1982. and I must say, for a 3 song 12", this is fucking fantastic. Then again, why else would I post this?

Swarrrm - Nise Kyuseishu Domo

For being one of my favorite grindcore albums it sure took me a while to post this.

Swarrrm - Nise Kyuseishu Domo

Swarrrm, yes that is spelt with 3 Rs, are quite possibly one of the greatest grindcore bands out there. Not only that, but they are also quite unique in their approach.

This isn't your typical grindcore record, far from it. There is actually a good dose of experimentation. Seriously, they make good use out of a mandolin on this album. Further, the vocals are truly an instrument. This vocalist does in fact shout incoherently and scream his lungs outs, since there are in fact no lyrics. As such, he flawlessly manages to accompany the music through his vocals in quite an interesting manor by adding texture to the songs. Enough rambling though, just download it.

I highly recommend this album to everyone. I don't care if you hate grindcore, give it a shot, it's worth it.

Celeste - Misanthrope(s)

Looks like a black metal cover doesn't it?

Celeste - Misanthrope(s)

Seriously now. Lets analyze this. The album cover depicts a very old statue that appears religious in nature, likely giving an expression of sadness. Below is album title, Misanthrope(s) and an updside down cross. Who wouldn't think this was anything but black metal?

But nope, this isn't black metal. This is actually a really nice merging of sludge, and, strange as it will sound, screamo. Think of the band Envy, but add in some crushing sludge riffing. To say this album is completely without black metal influence would be a lie though. You can definitely hear some faint black metal influence in here but that is all it is, a faint influence.

Either way though, I highly recommend this for fans of sludge, screamo as well, but will also recomend it for black metal fans since there is some notable black metal influence, and even riffing that can be heard, faint as it is.

Silvester Anfang - Kosmies Slachtfval

Got goat?

Silvester Anfang - Kosmies Slachtfval

Trying to describe this band is no easy task, but i will attempt it. What we have here is a free folk collective playing long fully improvised psychedelic jam sessions. But even that isn't enough to really prepare you for just what this sounds like. This album is a mere 2 songs long and is one of many in their discography, it is however my favorite of theirs.

So at the end of the day, you will just have to listen to it for yourself if you are daring enough. But really, with a cover as hot as that, who wouldn't want to try it?

What we have here is one of the finest pieces of raw black metal that has come out in some time. This is Katharsis with their VVorldVVithoutEnd album. Which yes, those are Vs, not Ws.

Don't have much more to say. If you like black metal, you will love this, if you don't you still won't.

Kanon Wakeshima - Shinshoku Dolce

It's a cello!

Kanon Wakeshima - Shinshoku Dolce

This is by far the most unusual thing I'd say I have posted yet so far on this blog. Though really it isn't so much unusual, as vastly different from anything else posted.

What we have here is the first album by Kanon Wakeshima, a Japanese cellist. Musically we have here pop with a strong gothic influence, oh ya, there is a cello too. Frankly I really enjoy this album and have listened to it several times already. I greatly enjoyed her previous two singles as well so this was pretty much a no brainer for me. Anyway, shits good, give it a shot. Oh ya, the album was produced by Mana of Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois. Now go download it.

Asmorod - hysope

Join the Dark-Heart Procession

Asmorod - hysope

This is probably my favorite dark ambient release. I first heard it a few years back and fell in love with it, eventually losing it back during my harddrive crash. I found it though and decided to upload it here since it took me a while of searching.

This is dark ambient so expect just what it sounds like, dark ambience. This however is no Lustmord. It is dark certainly but it also has an ethereal celestial vibe to it, almost in a Dead Can Dance way. Not much more to say, so I'll just say it's recomended for ambient lovers and anyone who doesn't need a guitar or a distorted 808 to enjoy music.

Tracklisting:

1
The Third Secret (7:52)
2
Nobody Knows (5:10)
3
Forbidden Daughter Of God (7:04)
4

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

This Love is Fucking Right!

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

I recall seeing this album cover pop up all over the place and finally decided to give it a listen tonight. This is actually really really nice music. What we have here is some noisey pop music, with the noise of course being provided by the shoegaze guitars.

Really, I don't have much to say about this. It honestly isn't anything particularly ground breaking, it is simply some really enjoyable music for you shoegaze fans. Recomended to shoegaze fans and, honestly, everyone, it is pretty easy to listen to and even connect with.

Susumu Hirasawa - Planet Roll Call

It isn't psytrance.

Susumu Hirasawa - Planet Roll Call

What I bring to you all tonight is the brand new, newly released, and leaked, album from Susumu Hirasawa. For those unfamiliar with the man, he is responsible for several anime OSTS (Berserk, Paprika, Paranoia Agent, etc.) as well as been at the forefront of the Japanese electronic music scene since as early as the 70s with his group P-Model. In the late 80s Hirasawa began releasing solo material and has continued releasing great album after album.

This album however is a bit different from most Hirasawa works, coming out 3 years after his previous. While before a main influence had been the land of Thailand, this time it is very much a sci-fi influence. Recomended for any fans of electronic music.

Track listing

  1. Hard Landing (instrumental)
  2. Planet Roll Call
  3. Night Walking Wearing the Human Body
  4. Mirror Gate
  5. Royal Road, Paradise
  6. Initial Value of Midair
  7. The Great Deceiver of Saint Horseshoe Planet
  8. Visible Sea
  9. Phonon Belt
  10. Astro-Ho! Homing
Tagging is a bit messed up but easily fixed.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde

If you liked Amesoeurs, which you better have, you'll love this.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde

I posted Amesoeurs a little while ago, so it only made sense to post some Alcest. This album frankly is just very beautiful music. Neige really outdid himself with the compositions. I tell you before this man the French had crap going for them. Oh sure they had the LLN but it had all been heard before. What Neige has brought to the French scene is life! Enough about that though...

This album is NOT black metal. Some may make this mistake but that is just the shoegaze you are hearing. Really this is a cross between several genres; shoegaze, post-rock, and post-punk. As said before the music here is beautiful. The story goes that when Neige was a child he would often dream of a so called "fairy land" and this world is what he seeks to bring to us through Alcest. This album is full of beautiful melodies and calm, gentle vocals.

Tracklisting:

1
Printemps Emeraude (7:19)
2
Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde (6:08)
3
Les Iris (7:41)
4
Ciel Errant (7:12)
5
Sur L'Autre Rive Je T'Attendrai (6:50)
6
Tir Nan Og (6:10)

Highest recomendation, again if you don't like this you seriously have issues. I'm afraid no level of counseling can save your musical taste.

Asobi Seksu - Citrus

Do you enjoy playful sex?

Asobi Seksu - Citrus

Asobi Seksu (Playful Sex) are a shoegaze/dreampop band from New York of all places, and featuring a female Japanese vocalist, and a mix of English and Japanese lyrics. In all honesty this album was my first introduction to the shoegaze genre, and its blend of dreampop with lovely female vocals had me sold from track one.

This is another album in which I will state that if you in fact do not enjoy this, you simply have no taste.

They recently released a new album Hush, and while it is good, they unfortunately dropped the shoegaze aspect of their music much to my dissapointment. The new one is still a nice album though.

Tracklisting:

1 Everything Is On (0:17)
2 Strawberries (3:57)
3 New Years (3:01)
4 Thursday (4:17)
5 Strings (5:27)
6 Pink Cloud Tracing Paper (3:27)

Prurient - And Still, Wanting

I really wanted to think of a witty or poetic comment about this post... but I failed.

Prurient - And Still, Wanting

Look at that cover, so peaceful with the clouds... or is it water? I can't tell. Even the title, "And Still, Wanting" gives this ambient vibe about it. You really get the impression this is going to be a peaceful, relaxing album, something to listen to as you lay down on the grass in an open field. Well... you could listen to it in that setting I suppose...

All of the above however is horribly horribly wrong. What we have here is quite possibly one of the greatest noise albums in existence, "And Still, Wanting" by Prurient. This release is harsh as fuck. However this album wouldn't be what it is if it was only a harsh noise record, it really is so much more. There is a great deal of dynamics and change going on here. This is not a stereotypical "everything sounds the same lolnoise derp derp SHSHSHSHSHSHS". You can see there was a great deal of effort put into each composition. Enough of me saying how good this is though.

Being a harsh noise release it is of course not for everyone, blah blah blah, quit being a pussy and just fucking download it.

Tracklisting:

1 Memory Repeating
2 Returning Truth
3 Subject
4 Lust End
5 Total Terrorism
6 Strict Ideas
7 Incense And Rubber

Stalaggh - Projekt Misanthropia

Welcome to the Insane Asylum

Stalaggh - Projekt Misanthropia

This is not an album to enjoy. It is an album used to punish yourself and all those within hearing distance. It is what you listen to when you truly wish to curse humanity. Oh yea, it is also the only album I have ever bought with my own money.

For those who don't know, this is Stalaggh. This is not music. This is audio terror. The story goes that the members acquired several mental patients under false pretenses from an asylum, then locked them in an abandoned factory and then proceeded to feed them various stimuli in an effort to make them react, and well, scream bloody murder.

Again, this is harsh shit and is the closest possible thing to "unlistenable" I can think of. Only
recommended for the most "extreme" and liberal of music listeners.

Also, this is actually my very first attempt at a real rip. This particular one here is in MP3 v0 though I also have it in FLAC if you really wish to punish yourself.
