Kanon Wakeshima - Shinshoku Dolce

It's a cello!

Kanon Wakeshima - Shinshoku Dolce

This is by far the most unusual thing I'd say I have posted yet so far on this blog. Though really it isn't so much unusual, as vastly different from anything else posted.

What we have here is the first album by Kanon Wakeshima, a Japanese cellist. Musically we have here pop with a strong gothic influence, oh ya, there is a cello too. Frankly I really enjoy this album and have listened to it several times already. I greatly enjoyed her previous two singles as well so this was pretty much a no brainer for me. Anyway, shits good, give it a shot. Oh ya, the album was produced by Mana of Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois. Now go download it.

Asmorod - hysope

Join the Dark-Heart Procession

Asmorod - hysope

This is probably my favorite dark ambient release. I first heard it a few years back and fell in love with it, eventually losing it back during my harddrive crash. I found it though and decided to upload it here since it took me a while of searching.

This is dark ambient so expect just what it sounds like, dark ambience. This however is no Lustmord. It is dark certainly but it also has an ethereal celestial vibe to it, almost in a Dead Can Dance way. Not much more to say, so I'll just say it's recomended for ambient lovers and anyone who doesn't need a guitar or a distorted 808 to enjoy music.

Tracklisting:

1
The Third Secret (7:52)
2
Nobody Knows (5:10)
3
Forbidden Daughter Of God (7:04)

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

This Love is Fucking Right!

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

I recall seeing this album cover pop up all over the place and finally decided to give it a listen tonight. This is actually really really nice music. What we have here is some noisey pop music, with the noise of course being provided by the shoegaze guitars.

Really, I don't have much to say about this. It honestly isn't anything particularly ground breaking, it is simply some really enjoyable music for you shoegaze fans. Recomended to shoegaze fans and, honestly, everyone, it is pretty easy to listen to and even connect with.

Susumu Hirasawa - Planet Roll Call

It isn't psytrance.

Susumu Hirasawa - Planet Roll Call

What I bring to you all tonight is the brand new, newly released, and leaked, album from Susumu Hirasawa. For those unfamiliar with the man, he is responsible for several anime OSTS (Berserk, Paprika, Paranoia Agent, etc.) as well as been at the forefront of the Japanese electronic music scene since as early as the 70s with his group P-Model. In the late 80s Hirasawa began releasing solo material and has continued releasing great album after album.

This album however is a bit different from most Hirasawa works, coming out 3 years after his previous. While before a main influence had been the land of Thailand, this time it is very much a sci-fi influence. Recomended for any fans of electronic music.

Track listing

  1. Hard Landing (instrumental)
  2. Planet Roll Call
  3. Night Walking Wearing the Human Body
  4. Mirror Gate
  5. Royal Road, Paradise
  6. Initial Value of Midair
  7. The Great Deceiver of Saint Horseshoe Planet
  8. Visible Sea
  9. Phonon Belt
  10. Astro-Ho! Homing

Alcest - Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde

If you liked Amesoeurs, which you better have, you'll love this.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde

I posted Amesoeurs a little while ago, so it only made sense to post some Alcest. This album frankly is just very beautiful music. Neige really outdid himself with the compositions. I tell you before this man the French had crap going for them. Oh sure they had the LLN but it had all been heard before. What Neige has brought to the French scene is life! Enough about that though...

This album is NOT black metal. Some may make this mistake but that is just the shoegaze you are hearing. Really this is a cross between several genres; shoegaze, post-rock, and post-punk. As said before the music here is beautiful. The story goes that when Neige was a child he would often dream of a so called "fairy land" and this world is what he seeks to bring to us through Alcest. This album is full of beautiful melodies and calm, gentle vocals.

Tracklisting:

1
Printemps Emeraude (7:19)
2
Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde (6:08)
3
Les Iris (7:41)
4
Ciel Errant (7:12)
5
Sur L'Autre Rive Je T'Attendrai (6:50)
6

Highest recomendation, again if you don't like this you seriously have issues. I'm afraid no level of counseling can save your musical taste.

Asobi Seksu - Citrus

Do you enjoy playful sex?

Asobi Seksu - Citrus

Asobi Seksu (Playful Sex) are a shoegaze/dreampop band from New York of all places, and featuring a female Japanese vocalist, and a mix of English and Japanese lyrics. In all honesty this album was my first introduction to the shoegaze genre, and its blend of dreampop with lovely female vocals had me sold from track one.

This is another album in which I will state that if you in fact do not enjoy this, you simply have no taste.

They recently released a new album Hush, and while it is good, they unfortunately dropped the shoegaze aspect of their music much to my dissapointment. The new one is still a nice album though.

Tracklisting:

1 Everything Is On (0:17)
2 Strawberries (3:57)
3 New Years (3:01)

Prurient - And Still, Wanting

I really wanted to think of a witty or poetic comment about this post... but I failed.

Prurient - And Still, Wanting

Look at that cover, so peaceful with the clouds... or is it water? I can't tell. Even the title, "And Still, Wanting" gives this ambient vibe about it. You really get the impression this is going to be a peaceful, relaxing album, something to listen to as you lay down on the grass in an open field. Well... you could listen to it in that setting I suppose...

All of the above however is horribly horribly wrong. What we have here is quite possibly one of the greatest noise albums in existence, "And Still, Wanting" by Prurient. This release is harsh as fuck. However this album wouldn't be what it is if it was only a harsh noise record, it really is so much more. There is a great deal of dynamics and change going on here. This is not a stereotypical "everything sounds the same lolnoise derp derp SHSHSHSHSHSHS". You can see there was a great deal of effort put into each composition. Enough of me saying how good this is though.

Being a harsh noise release it is of course not for everyone, blah blah blah, quit being a pussy and just fucking download it.

Tracklisting:

2 Returning Truth

4 Lust End
5 Total Terrorism

Stalaggh - Projekt Misanthropia

Welcome to the Insane Asylum

Stalaggh - Projekt Misanthropia

This is not an album to enjoy. It is an album used to punish yourself and all those within hearing distance. It is what you listen to when you truly wish to curse humanity. Oh yea, it is also the only album I have ever bought with my own money.

For those who don't know, this is Stalaggh. This is not music. This is audio terror. The story goes that the members acquired several mental patients under false pretenses from an asylum, then locked them in an abandoned factory and then proceeded to feed them various stimuli in an effort to make them react, and well, scream bloody murder.

Again, this is harsh shit and is the closest possible thing to "unlistenable" I can think of. Only
recommended for the most "extreme" and liberal of music listeners.

Also, this is actually my very first attempt at a real rip. This particular one here is in MP3 v0 though I also have it in FLAC if you really wish to punish yourself.

Man With No Name - Earth Moving the Sun

Feeling psychedelic?

Man With No Name - Earth Moving the Sun

I first heard this album earlier today, and was so impressed with it, that I decided to reencode it to something more manageable and post it here.

What we have here is psytrance my friends, aka the best kind of trance. Seriously, just look at that cover, you know this is gonna be some trippy shit, and that is just what is delivered. Highly recommended for fans of other psytrance such as Infected Mushroom, and just electronic music fans in general.

Note: The tracklisting is a bit messed up since there appear to be two valid tracklists so it may not appear correctly.

Tracklisting:

1
Possessed (6:32)
2
Mainframe (7:02)
3

Special Valentine Day Post: Addendum

No music here so feel free to skip if you don't care about my ranting.

Valentines is bullshit. This is nothing more than a consumer holiday. People simply use Valentines as a means to an end, there is no love in this. If you truly care for someone then simply get them something because you want to, not because you need to because its Valentines.

Anyway that's my brief little rant, I'm late for work, and then i will likely be depressed the rest of the day, woohoo!

Special Valentines Day Post! 2/2

With post one we explored anger and hate as a result of our lack of being with someone. Now post two we shall explore us laying in a fetal position in a corner wanting the the pain to end.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Now some of you may disagree with this. I however find this album to convey a great deal of sadness. There is also the fact I really wanted to post a shoegaze album, and what better than the definitive one? Further, this is fairly easy music to get into further adding to the contrast of these posts. So just lay back, and let it all wash over you.

As I said before, this is shoegaze. Don't know what shoegaze is? That's your problem, wiki it, I'm too lazy to write something up that you should already know. Further, this is also the definitive album in the genre.

Special Valentines Day Post! 1/2

This is the first of my special two post Valentines Day special. I don't particularly enjoy the holiday, and both of these posts will reflect that.

So to start things off on the right foot...

Watchmaker - Kill.Fucking.Everyone.

Kill.Fucking.Everyone., you know you love that title. So while you're all alone on Valentines, don't feel depressed. Instead, listen to this and gain the urge to kill everyone. That fucker that pushed you three years ago? Ya, go slit his throat. This album will make you do that.

Musically this is of course quite possibly the angriest most hate filled grindcore I have ever heard. Everyone is sure to love it! This album just fucking pummels and beats you to death as it fills you with rage and contempt for this rotten world and every single thing on it. Perfect for Valentines.

Amesoeurs - Ruines Humaines

If you don't like this, you simply have no taste. Not even joking.

This is the phenomenal 3 track EP released by Amesoeurs a few years back. Since then we have been granted with... one additional split, containing merely one additional song. Supposedly the album has just finished though and I will most certainly jizz in my pants when it leaks, and then proceed to post it here.

Anyway what we have here is black metal, but, this is extremely shoegaze and post-rock influenced. To the point it has seemingly lost its "black metalness" and indeed the third track isn't metal in the least bit, rather a nice mellow shoegazey track.

Tracklisting:

1
Bonheur Amputé (4:32)
2
Ruines Humaines (6:25)
3
Faiblesse Des Sens (5:02)

Nux Vomica - A Civilized World

Would you like some melody with your crust, sir?

Nux Vomica - A Civilized World

Excuse the small cover image, best I could find. Anyway in contrast to the noisey fury of Framtid, I am now posting Nux Vomica, another crust band. This however, has melody. A lot of melody. Don't get the wrong idea now, this stuff is still very much crust and angry, it's just got melody though.

It seems that as of late a good number of modern crust bands coming up have been including a good deal of melody, to the point people are now calling this melodic crust neocrust. I don't particularly like the term, but I'll follow along for simplicity purposes. Recomended for anyone new to hardcore, crust, etc or just happens to like melody in their crust.

Grouper - Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill

Need something to relax or fall asleep?

Grouper - Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill

I first heard some talk about this album and downloaded it because frankly I liked the cover art. I knew it was supposed to be rather mellow music but that was about all I knew. One night I was sick of listening to happy hardcore and had a bit of a headache so I decided to put this on. I was amazed at how beautiful this album was. Incredibly relaxing and calming, it was perfect for what I needed. I then decided to leave the album on repeat and go to sleep, which worked wonderfully as well.

This album is extremely mellow soft acoustic ambient music with a nice dose of melancholy and even some shoegaze. Really though it's just beautiful music, for once genres fail to describe this album I feel. Right from the first track, Disengaged, I was hooked.

Tracklisting:

1 Disengaged (4:16)
2 Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping (2:53)
3 Stuck (5:59)
4 When We Fall (2:07)

Diabolical Masquerade - Death's Design: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Next up is quite possibly one of the best concept albums ever.

Diabolical Masquerade - Death's Design: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Now this is the final Diabolical Masquerade album and it is quite impressive. What we have here is a concept album, taking the form of a film soundtrack. Now there is a large deal of debate whether the "Original Soundtrack" aspect was legit and the movie just never came out, or whether it was simply a gimmick. Frankly, I don't know, and don't care, since either way this is near flawless.

Now this is in fact black metal. However this is not your "kvlter than thou recorded in a basement on an old 8 track" black metal. This is well produced, and incredibly organized. The album really does flow as a film would, with each scene changing, so does the music.

Even if you don't have much of an interest in black metal, give this a shot, it really is so much more.

Alec Empire & Merzbow - Live At CBGB's 1998

First off, most of you may not like this album. Frankly, I don't care. What we have next is an album not even I can describe, so here is last.fm's description of it.

Alec Empire & Merzbow - Live At CBGB's 1998

"The two artists collaborated together during the legendary show at CBGB’s in New York City. Empire shows off his DJ skills with obscure scratching techniques and hard breaks, while Masami Akita (aka Merzbow) is painting the apocalypse with shapes of white noise. In 1998 critics celebrated this concert as ‘the defining end-point of the popular music era of the 20th century’."

And so there ya have it. For those unfamiliar with these two artists, Alec Empire is the main one behind Atari Teenage Riot, a digital hardcore group, and Merzbow is of course the motherfucking god of noise. Maybe I'll do some Merzbow next...

Tracklisting:

2
The Destroyer And Merzbow (2:24)

Intestine Baalism - Banquet in the Darkness

Two posts in one day again... perhaps this may become a regular thing.

As a wee high school freshman listening to mostly Dir en grey, this next album completely changed my life when I first heard it. I had never before experienced anything like it and became completely fascinated by it.

Intestine Baalism - Banquet in the Darkness

It was this album that triggered my descent into the metal genre and set me on the path of who I am today.

Musically what we have here is melodic death metal, and not that At the Gates, In Flames Gothenburg type either. I'm talking actual death metal with melody.

Track Listings

1. Flesh For The Twelfth Omnipotent
2. Banquet In The Darkness
3. Curse Of Baal
4. Genuine Tone
5. Principle Of Causality
6. Memory
7. Keen
8. Avenger Full Of Vengeance On God
9. Knight Appears From The Lake Of Blood
10. Planet
11. Bone But Buried, I Can See The Light

I can not possibly recommend this album any less. Get it!

Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született

Can you find this album everywhere on the internet? Absolutely! So may as well add it here too.

What we have here is Rossz Csillag Alatt Született aka "that Hungarian album" by Venetian Snares. For those unfamiliar with Venetian Snares, this is some breakcore. Now what is breakcore? It's drop a cat on the keyboard music basically. What makes Rossz so impressive however is the near flawless merging of modern classical into the chaos of the breaks. Really a must hear album, and one of my favorites.

Sikertelenség (0:40)
2
Szerencsétlen (4:55)

Samayoi - Kanashimi

Two posts in one night. I must really be bored.

Next up is a Japanese band by the name of Samayoi. I first heard them a few years ago and fell in love with their demo Kanashimi (Sadness), and so I'm posting it here.

Musically we have some SDBM (Suicidal Depressing Black Metal) in the vein of Xasthur while maintaining their own sound and not merely sounding like every other SDBM group out there. In fact at the time I enjoyed this album so much I got together with a friend over the internet and wrote my own SDBM song but that is perhaps the subject of another post entirely.

Track List
01 - Intro
02 - Misanthropy
03 - Kanashimi
04 - Zetsubou no Hikari (Light of Despair)

First/ Death in June - DISCriminate

Well welcome to the blog. The main purpose of this blog will be posting music which I generally enjoy as well as perhaps a few bits regarding my personal life in the event something interesting ever happens. It will also be used for my own benefit of keeping track of particular uploaded albums. Also, some albums will be reposts from other blogs I frequent. In this case I will reference the blog taken from.

Beyond that, there isn't likely to be much else here, so hopefully you enjoy the music.

First up we have a best-of/compilation album that completely rethought my stance regarding folk and acoustic music.

Death in June - DISCriminate

This 2 disk compilation chronicles the start of Death in June from '81 all the way till '97. Given how extensive of a discography there is , it can be rather intimidating for new listeners unsure of where to start. This however makes for a perfect start.

Musically this is neofolk, think folk music made by post-industrialists. As such what we have here is rather dark, apocalyptic folk music, often with tinges of industrial for atmosphere. The industrial being more prominent on the earlier albums.

I had to split the album into two however that should hardly be an issue for anyone familiar with extracting multiple files. Part 1 and 2 are below.
