I admittedly just got around to giving this a listen earlier today and I think this will quickly become a fast favorite. Last.fm calls this "melodic black metal" however to me this is not something quite so simple. There is a lot going on here, with a lot of different influences. Seriously, there is a The Misfits and The Beatles cover in here.
Best bet, just give it a listen, you won't regret it.

"IV" is a cover version of "Devilock" by The Misfits with different lyrics sung by Il Colonnello from Italian band Frangar. "X" is a cover version of "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles sung by Herr Morbid from Forgotten Tomb.
Like Joy Division? Like black metal? Ever wanted to hear a blackened Joy Division?
Hateful Abandon - Famine (or Into the Bellies of Worms)
Seriously. This sounds like a blackened Joy Division. One track even has a strong resemblance to the track Shadowplay. Apparently this band used to be just Abandon and supposedly played some pretty normal black metal, and then another guy from pretty much a Von worship band joined and... this is what came out.
I've had this along with the new Thranenkind on repeat really for the past few days and it is just wonderful. Give it a listen.
"Avant-garde movement Hermetic" so for the sake of proper English, I'm going to say that translates to "The Hermetic Avant-garde Movement". If anyone actually knows what the name translates to, let me know.
Anyway, this is some pretty good black metal. For having Avant-garde in the name though it isn't that... different or avant-garde really. It's some nice easy to listen to atmospheric type stuff for the most part. The cover is actually pretty accurate to the sound as well I would say.
Anyway, give it a listen, it's another example of some lovely Italian black metal.
Thränenkind - Eine Momentaufnahme - Der Rest ist nur Einsamkeit
I first heard this back when it came out, and had meant to post this long ago, but this little demo is fantastic.
This is just the right blend of neigecore and black metal to create some beautiful and memorable music. I really hope these guys do a full length, and soon, cause this is just a fantastic piece of music, and it's only a demo.
A good friend of mine already posted it over on his blog, found here, and he is a far better writer than I, so enjoy.
"The chaotic riffing of Fas, the motif structure of both Kénôse and Chaining the Katechon and the interludes of Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice, that's how the final chapter of the trilogy, Paracletus, sounds like, with an added complexity result of the natural evolution of a band that has remained in almost complete secrecy since their inception. Words alone can't explain how good this album is.
The Holy Ghost, the explicit reference on the album's title, is evoked in the album cover as a deformed black beast with thousand of tentacles and born from the above fire, Deathspell Omega exposes this true nature in a lyrical and musical frenzy, taking aback the listener in this revealing journey through chaos. The summarizing of their enlightning message comes with the final words of this album:
You were seeking strength, justice, splendour! You were seeking love! Here is the pit, here is your pit! Its name is SILENCE…
Mgla, "fog" in Polish, is certainly one of the best bands out of Poland in recent memory. Musically, kind of an atmospheric take on orthodox black metal, but you can decide yourself.
If you didn't get the opening line, there is a very infamous image of Hoest from Taake live, with his penis sticking out of his jeans. Also, this will be a double post of two bands whos names both mean "fog". In case you couldn't figure it out, Taake is Norwegian for "fog".
Musically, somewhat similar to Emperor. Lots of fast little melodic lines ala I Am the Black Wizards type stuff, but really thats where comparisons end I'd say.
Anyway this album is fantastic, and was an old favorite from my high school days. With Nothing but Black Metal November going, I decided I'd revisit this oldie classic of mine, and by golly, it's still fuckin awesome.
They are from the Netherlands, not Germany, good guess though.
Urfaust - Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist
Continuing with Nothing but Black Metal November this is Urfaust's second full-length. So what is Urfaust? Good question. Atmospheric black metal, with clean/cleanish vocals and featuring several classical interludes.
The clean vocals actually really work too despite the initial concept may make you scratch your head, hell, you'll still scratch your head when you hear them. The classical/ambient pieces are fantastic as well, quite bombastic.
So give this a listen, no cliches here, fantastic band.
Fides Inversa - Hanc Aciem Sola Retundit Virtus (The Algolagnia Divine)
Something about Italy just continues to produce some fantastic black metal, right up there with the French, must be the Pope.
Fides Inversa are a relatively recent Italian black metal band to my knowledge, and this fantastic album is their only release as far as I can tell. Upon first listen I actually didn't care too much for this, probably because I had expected something more like Deathspell Omega, but upon revisiting this, I loved it.
So ya know what, I'm not gonna say what this sounds like, just go for it, it's good.
Scott Walker, for those unfamiliar, used to be a 60s pop singer. As of recently however his music has taken a drastic turn to the experimental and downright horrifying. The Drift, is one of those later albums.
I was originally introduced to this album by a friend who told me it was one of the scariest albums he had ever heard. I was skeptical, but no, this really is absolutely terrifying this album.
It isn't terrifying per say from creepy spooky ambient noises however, there is something more to the sound, the haunting vocals, and the peculiar irregularities from the experimental that really give this album its horrifying sound.
Wanna creep the shit out of your neighbors, roommates, kids and anyone else? Play this.
Enemite is a Chinese ritual and dark ambient project, of which I know nothing more. Being Chinese, and also having a strong ritual aspect, it has a strong Eastern sound to it, as if some cult was summoning various Buddhist demons to torment and torture the souls of others.
V/A - Can You Jack? Chicago Acid and Experimental House 1985-95
I love acid house. Hell, I love pretty much anything that can be described as having an acid influence or sound. I just fuckin love the sound of that overdriven TB-303.
This is a comp album of some of the most classic tracks to come out of the acid house scene, and even features my personal favorite acid house track, Phuture's Acid Tracks, so damn good.
So if you are new to acid house, or trying to get into it, this is a fantastic place to start.
I'm going to say flat-out, I don't see how anyone could dislike this. Actually, you could if you were someone stupid enough to think anything religious instantly made it stupid. Then again, I don't want you on my blog if you are like that.
What we have here is a re-imagining/reprocessing of the hymns of the old 60s apocalypse cult known as The Process Church of the Final Judgment. So what made this cult special? They used music themselves to spread their hymns and beliefs, of which this album is a more updated take on those old versions. The Process Church was a rather unusual cult also in terms of belief. Labeled Satanic by most they referred to Gods, in particular, Jehova, Lucifer, and Satan, and that the Final Judgment would bring them all together, with Christ as judge, and Satan as the executor of judgment etc etc. Quite interesting really. Check the wiki if you are curious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Process_Church_of_The_Final_Judgment
Moving on though, musically this is very strongly 60s psychedelic influenced. It's got that old 60s psych feel with folk, and even doom, which makes sense as the vocalist is none other than Jex Thoth.
Closest thing musically that comes to mind is The Electric Prunes and their Release of An Oath album, in that both albums are 60s psychedelic rock, and involve the reciting of hymns. Give this a listen, it is fantastic and extremely addictive. I guarantee you too will be singing "Glory to the Gods in the Highest".

This is a pretty interesting band, and one that is somewhat a mish mash of genres. There is a strong drone sound to this, sounds at times like Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull however with a more prominent atmospheric doom vibe to it with black metalish vocals.
Hell, just give it a listen, it's great and rather catchy in a "I want to hear this again" manner.
Preying hands with good intentions prying where they don't belong
preying hands - Through the Dark
I found out about this band a while back and loved this.
Simply put, neocrust with female vocals. Very catchy and awesomely crusty. If you like Witch Hunt then you will love this. Give it a listen, it's great.
This is Leper, a blackened crust/ska band out of Canada. Initially that word "ska" kept me away from this band. How could anything related to ska possibly be good? But oh this is. It very much is.
Take Iskra, and then add in some catchy as fuck ska and reggae grooves and you have Leper. This shit had me floored since I first gave it a listen earlier tonight. Give this a listen.
So yea, I've been pretty lazy and distracted but here is a nice treat.
This is probably one of my most favorite shoegaze albums, and is rather underrated honestly. Vidulgi OoyoO is a great little band out of South Korea, and this album is frankly excellent. They maintain the classic shoegaze sound, while maintaining their own unique sound and take on it.
For any of you not familiar with Numbers Stations, they are unknown stations which can be heard on shortwave radios, repeating, well, numbers, and other such things. They are largely believed to be used by governments to inform spies of their orders in a completely uncrackable manner. Further, locating the origins of such number stations are, frankly, neigh impossible.
This is a phenomenon I was recently introduced to a few months ago and fell in love with this release. The Conet Project is exactly what its subtitle says it is, recording of hundreds and hundreds of these numbers stations in short 1-3 minute bits. Some can be quite creepy though, the Swedish Rhapsody in particular, with its eerie monotone young child reciting numbers in German in between stints of ice cream truck music.
When I first heard these it blew me away and instantly gained a spot in my sleeping playlist, but even for simply listening purposes, these are great.
This can be downloaded from archive.org, however I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather not download each track individually, thus it is in a nice rar file here.
This blog overall doesn't have a specific theme really, unless "music I like" is a valid theme. So expect to find anything and everything that happens to tickle my fancy here. If you happen to want something taken down, let me know in a comment on the offending post and it will be done. Also if you happen to have some requests or something I'll see what I can do about that as well. Enjoy the blog. Comments are always encouraged.
