Scott Walker - The Drift

Scott Walker, for those unfamiliar, used to be a 60s pop singer. As of recently however his music has taken a drastic turn to the experimental and downright horrifying. The Drift, is one of those later albums.

I was originally introduced to this album by a friend who told me it was one of the scariest albums he had ever heard. I was skeptical, but no, this really is absolutely terrifying this album.

It isn't terrifying per say from creepy spooky ambient noises however, there is something more to the sound, the haunting vocals, and the peculiar irregularities from the experimental that really give this album its horrifying sound.

Enemite - Wuyuan

Wanna creep the shit out of your neighbors, roommates, kids and anyone else? Play this.

Enemite is a Chinese ritual and dark ambient project, of which I know nothing more. Being Chinese, and also having a strong ritual aspect, it has a strong Eastern sound to it, as if some cult was summoning various Buddhist demons to torment and torture the souls of others.

Highly recommended, and fucking creepy shit.

I love acid house. Hell, I love pretty much anything that can be described as having an acid influence or sound. I just fuckin love the sound of that overdriven TB-303.

This is a comp album of some of the most classic tracks to come out of the acid house scene, and even features my personal favorite acid house track, Phuture's Acid Tracks, so damn good.

So if you are new to acid house, or trying to get into it, this is a fantastic place to start.

Sabbath Assembly - Restored to One

I'm going to say flat-out, I don't see how anyone could dislike this. Actually, you could if you were someone stupid enough to think anything religious instantly made it stupid. Then again, I don't want you on my blog if you are like that.

What we have here is a re-imagining/reprocessing of the hymns of the old 60s apocalypse cult known as The Process Church of the Final Judgment. So what made this cult special? They used music themselves to spread their hymns and beliefs, of which this album is a more updated take on those old versions. The Process Church was a rather unusual cult also in terms of belief. Labeled Satanic by most they referred to Gods, in particular, Jehova, Lucifer, and Satan, and that the Final Judgment would bring them all together, with Christ as judge, and Satan as the executor of judgment etc etc. Quite interesting really. Moving on though, musically this is very strongly 60s psychedelic influenced. It's got that old 60s psych feel with folk, and even doom, which makes sense as the vocalist is none other than Jex Thoth.

Closest thing musically that comes to mind is The Electric Prunes and their Release of An Oath album, in that both albums are 60s psychedelic rock, and involve the reciting of hymns. Give this a listen, it is fantastic and extremely addictive. I guarantee you too will be singing "Glory to the Gods in the Highest".

This is a pretty interesting band, and one that is somewhat a mish mash of genres. There is a strong drone sound to this, sounds at times like Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull however with a more prominent atmospheric doom vibe to it with black metalish vocals.

Hell, just give it a listen, it's great and rather catchy in a "I want to hear this again" manner.

I found out about this band a while back and loved this.

Simply put, neocrust with female vocals. Very catchy and awesomely crusty. If you like Witch Hunt then you will love this. Give it a listen, it's great.

This is Leper, a blackened crust/ska band out of Canada. Initially that word "ska" kept me away from this band. How could anything related to ska possibly be good? But oh this is. It very much is.

Take Iskra, and then add in some catchy as fuck ska and reggae grooves and you have Leper. This shit had me floored since I first gave it a listen earlier tonight. Give this a listen.

So yea, I've been pretty lazy and distracted but here is a nice treat.

This is probably one of my most favorite shoegaze albums, and is rather underrated honestly. Vidulgi OoyoO is a great little band out of South Korea, and this album is frankly excellent. They maintain the classic shoegaze sound, while maintaining their own unique sound and take on it.

Also I just love female vocals.

The Conet Project - Recordings of Shortwave Numbers Stations

Yankee... Hotel... Foxtrot...



For any of you not familiar with Numbers Stations, they are unknown stations which can be heard on shortwave radios, repeating, well, numbers, and other such things. They are largely believed to be used by governments to inform spies of their orders in a completely uncrackable manner. Further, locating the origins of such number stations are, frankly, neigh impossible.

This is a phenomenon I was recently introduced to a few months ago and fell in love with this release. The Conet Project is exactly what its subtitle says it is, recording of hundreds and hundreds of these numbers stations in short 1-3 minute bits. Some can be quite creepy though, the Swedish Rhapsody in particular, with its eerie monotone young child reciting numbers in German in between stints of ice cream truck music.



When I first heard these it blew me away and instantly gained a spot in my sleeping playlist, but even for simply listening purposes, these are great.

This can be downloaded from archive.org, however I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather not download each track individually, thus it is in a nice rar file here.
